London, England — Abatable is thrilled to announce the appointment of Juliet Davenport as an Independent Board Director. A stalwart in environmental activism, Juliet brings a wealth of experience as a founder, operator and board member in clean energy and climate solutions to Abatable.
In 1999, Juliet founded Good Energy, one of the UK’s pioneering 100% renewable electricity suppliers. As the first female CEO of a UK energy supplier, she defied the norms of an industry dominated by non-renewable sources. Guided by her vision, Good Energy empowered individuals to contribute to climate solutions. The journey was not without its challenges, but the support of dedicated customers led to ground-breaking achievements. Investments were crowdfunded, home-generated solar power blossomed, the UK’s inaugural wind farm was acquired, and a nascent market for distributed small-scale clean power emerged.
Having made significant strides with Good Energy, she now takes her expertise to Abatable, a role which will sit alongside other positions on the British Growth Fund’s Climate Advisory Board and as President of the Energy Institute. At Abatable, Juliet will serve as the first Independent Board Member, providing strategic insights and contributing her experience to the long-term growth and success of Abatable alongside existing Board Directors: Valerio Magliulo (Co-founder and CEO), Maria Eugenia Filmanovic (Co-Founder), Santiago Olivares (Managing Partner at Azora Capital) and Fernando Gómez Fortún (Investment Director at Azora Capital).
Juliet Davenport, Independent Board Member at Abatable, said: “Abatable is a really exciting business, bringing transparency and scalability to the global voluntary carbon market. The platform supports all types of market participants in building confidence in a mechanism that is vital to the worldwide climate transition.”
Valerio Magliulo, Co-founder and CEO at Abatable, said: “We are honoured to welcome Juliet to our Board of Directors and look forward to the dynamic perspectives and insights she will bring to the business to accelerate our ability to deliver on our mission. Juliet has been a pathfinder in the UK’s transition to net zero, and we know she will be instrumental to shaping Abatable’s position as a leader in this space.”
Santiago Olivares, Managing Partner at Azora Capital, said: “We are delighted to have Juliet join Abatable as an Independent Board Director. It is an exciting time for the Company and we are thrilled to have Juliet onboard during this pivotal moment – Juliet’s unique perspectives and experience will undoubtedly compliment the existing Board and we look forward to working together in order to continue to accelerate the growth of the business.”
Juliet’s appointment also reflects Abatable’s commitment to diversity at all levels of governance. Abatable’s Board of Directors now boasts 60% of its members from underrepresented groups, and works closely with a 67% female Executive Committee. Abatable is already a leader in promoting diversity within the climate tech space, but progress remains ongoing to continue to bring varied perspectives to the company.
Juliet’s appointment was effective as of 2 August 2023.
