Anton Jidkov explains why Abatable developed its new platform to provide an easy entry point for users to explore carbon markets, and outlines what’s on offer.
At Abatable our mission is to enable every organisation to build a thriving future for climate, nature and people. We fundamentally believe that, in order for this to happen, organisations need to be supported with the tools to make a meaningful contribution to climate change, and this includes being empowered to confidently navigate carbon markets.
We’ve been busy building the solutions to facilitate this. Initially focused on enabling businesses to effectively procure high-quality carbon credits through a unique carbon sourcing tool, our product offering has expanded into intelligence solutions for the voluntary carbon market.
We decided as part of our mission it was time to democratise access to our tools, and thus our new and improved platform was born – with a free tier for all users to access crucial carbon market data.
Our new platform
Over the course of a year we’ve rebuilt, restructured and redesigned our existing market intelligence platform, merging our free and paid content into a holistic, self-service experience that provides access to our intelligence tools and offers a more personalised experience.

The 2024 VCM Investment Attractiveness Index
Our VCM Investment Attractiveness Index is out again for the second year, and is now available exclusively through our new platform. The Index ranks countries according to their current voluntary carbon market conditions and their potential to play a significant role in the future of carbon markets. It was designed to provide capital allocation risk insights to investors, aid governments in setting carbon market-friendly policies and allow carbon credit buyers to better understand the political landscape behind the credits they are sourcing.
The Index is framed around three pillars that analyse countries’ investment landscapes, their readiness to engage with national and international carbon markets and the opportunities available for the VCM to improve their environmental and social conditions.
This year with two years’ worth of data we have been able to generate both temporal and geographical insights, which you can explore on the platform.
Pro tier: We also offer a pro tier for sophisticated carbon market actors to access more of our data and insights. If you upgrade to our pro tier subscription you can access and download our VCM Investment Attractiveness Index data for the 248 countries we assessed.
Policy profiles
Users of our new platform can now view our key carbon market policy information for over 80 countries for free. Within the policy profiles section we’ve provided key market metrics numbers for each country, including the number of projects and developers across project types and the supply and demand of carbon credits, as well as countries’ policy approaches to fundamental climate and carbon market areas.
Pro tier: Users can upgrade to access our more detailed policy assessments, including policy forecasts, and get alerts for key policy events.
Pricing insights
Users can get a sense of typical prices in the voluntary carbon market by viewing our price ranges by project type, powered by our proprietary pricing data.
Pro tier: Users can upgrade to access historic and forward pricing data with advanced filtering options, as well as view vintage pricing trends.
Supply trends
Users can view overall market trends across new carbon credit project developers, as well as data on the global supply and demand of carbon credits.
Pro tier: Users can upgrade to access developer league tables and funding data.
Knowledge hub
Users can explore our comprehensive knowledge hub, offering a searchable place to view all of Abatable’s current and past insight-driven content across our blogs, webinars, podcasts and reports.
