Abatable, a leading carbon procurement and market intelligence platform, and Artemeter, a carbon investment manager and advisory firm, today announced a strategic partnership to support decarbonisation across the global sports and entertainment industries.

The partnership combines Abatable’s capabilities in carbon credit sourcing, procurement and due diligence with Artemeter’s expertise in decarbonisation strategy, business development, and carbon origination. Together, the companies aim to help major sporting and entertainment organisations address their environmental impact through emissions reductions and high-integrity carbon programs.

Abatable and Artemeter will collaborate to deliver integrated decarbonisation solutions across the global sports and entertainment ecosystem, focusing on connecting leading events, leagues, and organisations with the tools and expertise needed to design and execute credible environmental impact.

Professional sports represent one of the world’s largest cultural and commercial ecosystems, with an estimated 500 to 900 million tickets sold annually (1) and a fan base reaching half of the global population (2). The sector’s environmental footprint is equally vast, generating roughly 400 million metric tonnes of CO each year, or nearly one percent of global emissions (3).

‘The global sports sector has the energy and audience to move faster on climate change than almost any other industry,’ said Maria Eugenia Filmanovic, Co-founder of Abatable. ‘By combining Abatable’s carbon market connectivity with Artemeter’s strategic insight, we are creating a framework that helps sporting teams, events and brands translate climate ambition into measurable, high-impact results. Together, we can help events and organisations integrate sustainability into their operations in a way that is both commercially viable and environmentally credible.’

‘Sports and entertainment are among the most powerful global platforms, uniting billions of people across every continent,’ said Olivia Albrecht, CEO and founder of Artemeter. ‘Initial findings from a proprietary study led by Artemeter tell us that fans are not only conscious of the environmental impact of major sporting events but eager to be part of the solution. Partnerships like ours with Abatable will help connect fan energy with credible pathways to decarbonisation through supporting high-impact climate projects, making environmental efficiencies both visible and scalable.’

Both organisations bring a proven record of driving environmental progress across the world’s most prominent sporting stages. Artemeter works with FC Barcelona to embed ecological action into fan experiences and club operations, helping one of the world’s most recognised teams integrate sustainability into its culture and commercial strategy. Abatable recently supported the Olympic Games Paris 2024 in meeting its climate goals through the large-scale sourcing and contracting of verified carbon credits, setting a new benchmark for transparency and impact in event decarbonisation.

Coinciding with the announcement, Artemeter previewed findings from its forthcoming sports and fan engagement study, which explores fan attitudes toward climate action in sports. Early data revealed that sixty-three percent of sports fans believe event hosts have a responsibility to reduce their carbon footprint, and seventy-two percent would pay an additional fee on top of ticket prices to make a positive environmental impact.

‘These findings highlight the opportunity for the sector to engage its audiences in meaningful climate solutions,’ said Albrecht. ‘Sustainability in sports is not just operational. It is emotional, cultural, and deeply connected to fan identity.’

The full study will be released later this quarter and will provide detailed insights into how sports organisations can align their environmental programs with fan expectations.
